Job Description:
Carries out a range of clerical and semi-technical tasks. fills, wraps, and distributes prescription drugs. restocks to predetermined levels, compounds, or repackages in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations as well as established rules, practices, processes, or special instructions. carries out cashiering tasks, such as collecting payments for all collectible services in the form of cash, checks, or credit cards.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Greets clients, associates, and other medical staff with compassion and assistance. Initiates service transactions by following the correct procedures and documents.
- forwards any questions or concerns about patient care or consultation to the pharmacist.
- helps in the prescription filling process by helping to enter patient and prescription data to create labels.
- complies with prescription labeling. Chooses the appropriate medication and dosage, fills the container, puts on the labels, and delivers the finished item to the pharmacist for verification.
- (May operate in a medical facility) Given their education or experience, arranges a sufficient supply of medicine for the distribution of unit doses.
- (May operate in a medical facility) manages prescription requests for hospitals and clinics. Obtains and fulfills requests for medication and medical supplies. as per the timetable, checks stock levels. discards out-of-date products and restocks at predetermined amounts.
- (May operate in a medical facility) Updates and fills unit dosage cassettes in accordance with the specified supply.
- Helps the patient with and/or gives them OTC products, supplies, or medicine (which the pharmacist verifies) in a kind and compassionate way. refers the pharmacist for all consultation functions. gathers cash as required.
- (May operate in a medical facility) As per the timetable, picks up and distributes supplies and drugs to certain locations or individuals (e.g. unit dosage exchange, control substance, floor stock).
- promptly and properly files prescriptions as well as other transaction documents related to pharmacy operations.
- Takes ownership of fixing current issues, completing duties as given, and reporting anomalies.
- inspects and keeps the workspace and tools in a clean, orderly, safe, and functional state.
- Respects and abides by the organization’s house rules as well as the regulations and procedures of the department, including but not limited to those regarding safety, attendance, appropriate dress, and ongoing education.
- Organizes and responds to phone calls. Answers the phone or routes calls to the right person.
Basic Qualifications:
- Requires enrollment in a pharmacy technician training program or prior pharmacy experience.
- Within two years of employment, pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
Education:
- A high school degree or comparable relevant work experience.
