Overview

This role helps surgical patients by supporting their care plan and providing excellent service to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Helps prepare the operating room for surgery by ensuring equipment is working properly and safely.
  • Prepares the surgical area by setting up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Understands human anatomy and how it relates to the patient and surgical procedure.
  • Assists in the surgical area as a scrub nurse, following the patient’s care plan.
  • Helps with patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Anticipates and responds to unexpected events during surgery.
  • Maintains a safe and sterile environment.
  • Assists the surgeon as needed.
  • Follows laws, regulations, and professional standards to ensure quality care.

Qualifications

To be a Surgical Tech, you need:

  • To graduate from a Surgical Technology program or have 5+ years of experience as a scrub tech
  • To complete a medical program (like CNA, Medical Assistant, etc.) and be willing to train on the job
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Good communication and people skills
  • Manual dexterity and computer skills
  • Ability to work well under stress and changing conditions
  • Ability to stand for long periods

Pay Range

Hourly pay range: $20.62 to $28.35
