Overview
This role helps surgical patients by supporting their care plan and providing excellent service to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Helps prepare the operating room for surgery by ensuring equipment is working properly and safely.
- Prepares the surgical area by setting up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Understands human anatomy and how it relates to the patient and surgical procedure.
- Assists in the surgical area as a scrub nurse, following the patient’s care plan.
- Helps with patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Anticipates and responds to unexpected events during surgery.
- Maintains a safe and sterile environment.
- Assists the surgeon as needed.
- Follows laws, regulations, and professional standards to ensure quality care.
Qualifications
To be a Surgical Tech, you need:
- To graduate from a Surgical Technology program or have 5+ years of experience as a scrub tech
- To complete a medical program (like CNA, Medical Assistant, etc.) and be willing to train on the job
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Good communication and people skills
- Manual dexterity and computer skills
- Ability to work well under stress and changing conditions
- Ability to stand for long periods
Pay Range
Hourly pay range: $20.62 to $28.35
